The pattern includes instructions for the Mother Hen with Chicks (first featured in Woman’s Weekly magazine) and a decorative Doorstop (featured in Woman’s Weekly Knitting and Crochet Special).

The gauge given is for the Mother Hen with Chicks using DK on 3 mm needles. 4 mm needles are used to make the tail feathers.

If using Aran (the Doorstop design) the gauge is 20 sts and 28 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) using 4mm and worked in stockinette stitch. The tail feathers are worked on 5 mm needles.
