Heppinn Mittens
- Simple mitts, light as a feather, made from a single strand of Plotulopi
- Constructed with an easy peasant thumb
- Heppinn means LUCKY in Icelandic
Mitts fitt with 0 - ½ of positive ease, like wearing clouds on your hands.
They are offered in one size which can be easily adapted in length. With a bit more thought, different sizes can be achieved with gauge, for a smaller circumference mitten go down a needle size and get a smaller gauge, plötulopi is extremely adaptable this way.
Although plötulopi seems fragile it is quite strong once knit. I have worn a pair of plötulopi mittens for over two years with no problems, though I would not recommend wearing them for heavy work like hauling wood.
Heppinn Mittens are a great first go at using plötulopi, a great project to experiment with. The key to success is to relax!
The mittens don’t take much yarn at all. I’ve made a generous estimate of yardage so if your yarn breaks you’ll still have enough. If the yarn does break simply spit splice it back together again, it’s easy!
Heppin Mitts uses 4 colors of yarn, two dark colors and two light colors. I think you could easily get away with just two colors by just swapping the placement of background and pattern the second time you knit the pattern repeat.
Colors used:
Black Sheep Heather
Brown Heather
