This shawl was going to be called Circle Time, but it’s a little blockier, and technically has seven sides—so, irregular heptagon it is.

Heptagon Time! uses a deeper version of a traditional shawl circle-shape (sort of; it’s also sort of a heptagon) to make styling it as a wrap easy. It’s good for adding a functional layer of warmth to your outfit.

This version can be knit any size, depending on the yarn you have on hand; you’ll probably need a minimum of 400 yards for a satisfying finished wrap. Block to match the schematic, or block it on gentle curves to make it more circular/circle-ish.

Materials:
400-800 yards of fingering-weight yarn—your own handspun or something else.
1 40”+ circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge.
1 crochet hook in size suited to yarn
Removable stitch markers.
Tapestry needle.

Gauge:
For the shawl shown, gauge is 16 sts and 30 rows over 4”/10cm. Please be sure to check your gauge. Haha, just kidding. This shawl can be knit in a variety of yarn weights! It’s shown in a light, airy fabric. Aim for an appropriate gauge that suits your chosen yarn.

Special Techniques:
Emily Ocker’s circular cast-on. I thought I invented this cast-on method, so I am a little down about the fact that it already existed. On the up side, that means there are convenient tutorials: a good one is here.
