Herbarium Lace Shawl
A herbarium – is a collection of dried and pressed plants. To preserve their form and color, plants collected in the field are spread flat on sheets and dried, usually in a plant press, between blotters or absorbent paper. Then mounted on sheets of stiff white paper and are labeled with all essential data.
As a kid I used to make herbarium. Sort of… Every summer I’ve picked pretty flowers, put them between blotting paper into a heavy book… and totally forgot about them. Til that day I keep on finding those thin and fragile dried flowers between pages of the old books in a house where I grew up. They make me smile.
It almost summer, go make your own herbarium!
Top-down crescent shawl. Stockinette part has some eyelets, to keep track of the progress and save you from boredom. Size is customizable, both ways, main body and lace part (for advanced skill level). Many possibilities for beading.
Shawl can be worked from written instructions or charts. Instructions are given for the small shawl (440y/50g skein), but you can make it as large as you wish.
Sample shawl:
Reywa Fibers Bloom in Jewel colorway - US 4 - 10 repeats - 349 yards - 54”x 16”(grew significantly while blocking - gauge 18x24)
In addition there is chart to help with calculations, which will tell you yarn usage ratio on main body/lace. Chart is based on stitch count for every size from 10 to 20 repeats of the main body. So it’s have to work for everybody. Scales needed.
