Herbsaint
Herbsaint is my sweater to bridge the seasons this year, featuring short sleeves, an easy fit, and some gorgeous and unexpected cables. I think a simple tee is easy to wear with anything, and both the heather and the drape of the Winterburn DK give Herbsaint a delicate, easy-wearing feel that’s perfect for either a late summer night or a crisp fall day.
The neckline and shoulder shaping play into the ribbing, as does the optional shaping at the bottom edge of the back. I placed these long, elegant cables between simple ribs, accenting the side to side construction of the top pieces. The lines feel classic and delicate and the cables open up a little when worn on their sides.
Baa Ram Ewe’s Winterburn DK yarn is just gorgeous in this design. I knew I loved the Dovestone, and it’s a hard act to follow, but the Winterburn is just as fantastic. The subtle heather and sheen in the fiber adds to the crisp, delicate feeling of the sweater, and the yarn is round and lofty on the needles. The drape in the fabric is perfect, and the weight is exactly what I want in a transitional piece.
And details:
I played with the construction here. The top section of the sweater is worked in two panels, each knit side-to-side. Once the top pieces are seamed together, you pick up stitches around the lower edge so the bottom portion of the sweater can be knit downwards in the round. Herbsaint is easy to modify for either length or width, and as always, notes on how and where to do so are included in the pattern.
Yardage by size:
Sizes: 36(38,40,42,44)(48,52,56)“/ 91.5(96.5,101.5,106.75, 111.75)(122,132,142.25)cm. Based on circumference around body at bust, once sleeves are complete. For fit as shown, choose the size that allows you 4-5”/10-12.75cm of positive ease.
Yardage: 900(950,1050,1100,1200)(1250,1275,1300)yds/ 825(870,960,1005,1100)(1150,1170,1190)m Note that yardage estimates include about 100-150 yds/m of buffer. Some test knits used less yarn than I expected, but I hesitate to leave you hanging. If you are on the edge, playing yarn chicken is up to you, although I find that I like having the extra….
Sample knit in the Bramley Baths colorway.
