Here Comes Summer!
Here Comes Summer is a light and airy poncho / wrap, just right as a cover up as you come off the beach; for first thing in the morning while there’s a chill in the air. Or for evening walks as the heat of the day subsides.
It is worked top down across the full width, so you might want to check your tension before you start.
- Skill level
The simple repeating pattern is perfect for the crochet novice - and if you don’t want to make the rings along the bottom edge, it is very easily replaced with pompoms, fringing, even beads! Or you could leave it off altogether.
- Size
Although designed as a one size poncho, that size can be easily adjusted, once you have checked your tension. I have even made a child size version.
Take a look through the linked projects for ideas about yarn and stitch counts.
- Materials
Here Comes Summer! really was designed for wearing in the summer (!), so I used 100% soft cotton yarn, which has little give when blocked and fewer metres per ball than other fibres. But it is soft.
In the dappled blue version shown, I used 3 whole balls of the stated yarn - you might want to buy an extra ball to be on the safe side.
I have also tried Stylecraft Cotton Classique DK - it was a much firmer, mercerised cotton, that had 15% fewer metres per ball. I used it for the child size but would have needed an extra 2 balls for the adult size.
If you are using acrylic, you may need to buy less and will be able to steam block it to the stated measurements very easily.
There are 2 files available to download, in either UK Terms or US Terms. There’s no need to download both.
I hope you enjoy making your own version and please do share it here on Ravelry and on Instagram using the hash tag
