Here Comes Winter
After our glorious spring, summer, and autumn (which all seemed to go on forever), we faced the inevitable arrival of winter, just a few days ago. Here it comes. Here it is. We’ll plow right through winter and embrace the change of seasons with fun indoor and outdoor activities. Right?
Walking is one healthy and peaceful way to get exercise and connect with others. I’m so grateful for my hiking and crafting friends and our conversations. Listening to music and walking helps to reduce stress and anxiety – and you can do it year round. Who says you can’t walk outside in the winter? You only need a little gear, including this cuddly cowl, and away you go! It’s an exploration of easy two color knitting. Treat yourself to this fun knit today. Make one for yourself or as a gift.
Pattern Information
This cowl has a few fun things going on. The cast on alternates between two colors. It also has corrugated ribbing, jogless striping, patterning, stranded knitting, increasing, striped ribbing, a little Fibonacci numbering and a relaxed bind off– all in this one project.
The cowl is approximately 12” deep x 18” at the neck circumference and 22” at the bottom circumference.
Gauge is 3.5 sts./in. 5 rounds/in. Although I loved knitting with Beatrix (because of the yummy 30% ANGORA), this pattern will work with any other chunky weight yarn.
Materials
One skein each of two contrasting colors (50 grams, 109 yards/ea) of Beatrix by Juniper Moon Farms.
54% extra fine merino wool, 30% angora, 16% nylon. Chunky weight yarn. This sample is color #04, Ivory and #06, Slate. Super soft, lightweight and warm.
Size 10.5 circular needles, 24” length. Stitch marker. Yarn needle.
Thank you to Barbara for modeling.
Thank you to Ginny for test knitting.
