Here’s Looking at You, Stripes was created as a way to use up the leftovers from sock projects from self-striping yarns.

After 18 months of participating in a monthly sock knit along from the same self-striping dyer, I had a lot of 30-45g balls of leftovers that needed something fun and beautiful to highlight the amazing colorways in a way that creates a useful item. This hat is the result of that desire.

This hat combines an open lacey pattern, that is super simple and easy to memorize, with little 2 stitch cables. The cables are worked without a cable needle.

Sizing for this pattern is very forgiving. The lace pattern is very stretchy, and the ribbing is deep making it very stretchy. The Size 3 hat will fit most children and adults depending on the depth knitted.

The sample in pink and black is Size 3; it fits my 6 year old fashionably loosely, fits my average sized head well as a beanie, and stretches to fit my husband’s 22 inch head. If the very open look is desired, knit more repeats of the chart to allow for the extra depth lost to the stretch.
