The Hermaness Shawl features the traditional Shetland lace stitch Old Shale in a simple asymmetric construction. It starts from one point then is knitted sideways, gradually increasing along one side as the work grows to create a large triangle.

The size of the shawl can be adjusted either by casting off after two repeats of the pattern rows, or by reducing the length of the garter stitch section.

The sample is knitted in Malabrigo Lace yarn shade Water Green and used slightly less than two 50g (1.76 ozs) skeins.
