Herringbone Tshirt Rug
This pattern includes a photo tutorial on how to cut t-shirts to turn them into usable yarn that can be knitted into the herringbone rug. A stitch tutorial is also included along with many useful tips and tricks for working with t-shirt yarn.
The tutorial used 18 mens medium t-shirts to create the rug. Each t-shirt wielded about 38yds (1/4lb) of yarn. You may need more or less shirts depending on size/wield of each one.
Herringbone stitch creates a thick flat fabric that is textual and practical. The t-shirt yarn creates a soft and supportive rug perfect for standing on while in front of the sink or stove and is easy to clean. Depending on number, vibrancy, and joins of colors it can be a cozy rag rug or a clean and polished kitchen accessory.
Knit flat with large needles and thick yarn with a two row pattern repeat the rug is easy to knit. As a bonus, handling the bulky fabric can be a bit cumbersome (wrestling with 4.5lbs of yarn is a lot!) so, it’s a knitting project and upper arm workout all in one!
