In Greek mythology, the Hesperides are the daughters of the evening or the nymphs of the west who live in a blissful garden far beyond the Atlantic Ocean.
Lyonesse is a mythical island in the Atlantic Ocean to the west of Cornwall. With the names of my designs in this collection, I want to pick up on the theme of “West” and play with different aspects of it.

Sizing / yarn requirements: See bottom picture for detailed sizing and yardage table.
The sweater is meant to be worn with a few cm = 1-2 inches of negative ease around the bust. The pattern contains advice for individual adjustments, including a bust dart tutorial.
The sweater is shown in size S3 on a person with a 84 cm / 33” bust and a 90 cm / 35” hip.

Yarn advice:
The original sweater was knitted with Blacker Yarns Lyonesse 4-ply (175 m / 190 yds per 50g) in colours “Red Beryl”, “Ruby” and “Dark Pearl”.
For a nice drape in the main fabric and for crisp stitch definition in the lace pattern, use a smooth yarn with some weight to it. Wool blends with plant fibre, e.g. linen or cotton, are particularly recommended.

Needle advice:
Use the needle sizes that give you the required gauge, most likely 3 mm / US #2 ½.
The garment is worked in the round. It is best to use a medium long circular needle (80 - 100 cm / 32 – 40’’). At some points in the pattern you will need a second needle of a smaller size.

Construction:
The sweater is worked top down in the round, starting with the lace yoke, which is complemented with some raglan shaping and short rows to raise the back neck. The body has waist shaping in darts on the back, and optional horizontal bust darts. Body and sleeves are finished with folded hems. The neckline is finished with an i-cord edging.

Please note: Cable/lace pattern on yoke is charted only.
