Meet the Newest member of Madeline’s Menagerie, Hester Hedgehog!

Hester was a custom piece designed for my godson (propbably the only person in the world who could get me to take on this challenge!). This Hedgehog has a prickly appearance but is super soft and squishy. Children love the tactile stimulus of the spike stitch between their little fingers, constrasted with the smooth face and body. By adding eyes, nose, and mouth, you can create a truly one-of-a-kind hedgehog for your little one!

This is an Advanced/Expert Level Pattern because of the Spikes covering the back of the head and body.

Necessary Skills

• Basic Crochet: chain, single crochet, slip stitch.
• Special Crochet Stitches: slip knot, sc2same, Invisible Increase, sc2tog (explained in detail)
• Invisible Color Change & Spike Stitch (explained in detail)
• Basic Sewing

A Note on Size

This Pattern can be scaled up or down by using a different yarn weight and the appropriate hook size. The Finished Size, Gauge, Hook Size, & Yarn Amount listed are for the Large project.
• Small (7” seated): Crochet Hook C-2 (2.75mm) or D-3 (3.25mm); about 100 g of DK (3) yarn.
• Standard (10 ½” seated): Crochet Hook E-4 (3.5mm) or F-5 (3.75mm); about 200 g of Worsted (4) yarn.
• Large (14” seated): Crochet Hook I-9 (5.5mm) or J-10 (6.0mm); about 400 g of Bulky (5) yarn
