I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Iceland a few
years back. A highlight of the trip was touring the home
of the Nobel Prize wining author Halldor Laxness. On
display throughout the museum are amazing tapestries
and embroidery worked by Laxness’ wife Auour. She
is also credited with popularizing the Icelandic Lopi
sweater. Inspired by Auour’s craft I decided to embellish
these mitts with a folk horse motif that also calls to mind
the countless rainbows we saw at every turn.

Detailed instructions are included to demonstrate embroidery on knit fabrics. In order to enjoy knitting this pattern familiarity with knitting small circumferences in the round will be helpful.
