Hetaera socks
Hetaera—an ancient Greek companion, especially well educated.
Hand knit socks, worked in beautiful yarn, are always an excellent companion to feet.
Hetaera socks are knit in the round from the toe up or cuff down in fingering weight yarn, suitable for a solid, tonal or multi-colour yarn.
Incorporating an easy to remember textured pattern on the instep and leg, the sock is simple enough to work, while interesting enough to keep you chanting just one more row…
The alternate afterthought heel is worked at the end to maintain stripe sequence or to avoid odd pooling on the foot when using tonal or variegated yarns.
Both foot and leg length are fully adjustable, perfect for using all your yarn – make them as short or long as you like.
The pattern includes full written instructions only
Sizes: Foot/Leg Circumference approximately
Small 15.25cm/6 inches
Medium 18cm/7 inches
Large 21cm/8.25 inches
X Large 24cm/9.5 inches
Designed to be worn with 1-3.75cm/.5-1.5 inch negative ease through foot
Waste yarn is used to set aside stitches for an alternate afterthought heel
I recommend a spare dpn in the same size for working the waste yarn in for the heel stitches
