The ‘Hi Vis’ socks have been designed for Folkestone Harbour Yarn’s ‘The Day The World Turned Day-Glo’ merino blend sock yarn mini skein set, to make full advantage of the brightness of the yarns (which have been dyed using genuinely fluorescent yarns – they will glow under U.V./Black light!).

The repeating geometric pattern is inspired by a traditional Faroese knitting motif called ‘cribs’ but I have chosen to call the socks HI Vis, as the motif looks like a capital H or I.

Knitted ‘top-down’, these socks are cast on at the cuff, then worked in the round to the heel. The heel is formed by short rows before the work is joined into the round again and the foot is continued until you reach the toe which is shaped with decreases, then seamed closed using the three needle bind off method.

Sizing: Adult S (M, L) which equate to UK shoe size 3-4 (5-6, 7-8).

TOOLS & YARN NEEDED to make these socks:

Main Colour: 1 x 50g skein of F.H.Y. merino blend sock in ‘Anthracite Grey’ (212m per 50g).
Contrast Colours: 1 x 100g (10 x 10g) F.H.Y. Merino blend sock yarn mini skein set in ‘The Day The World Turned Day-Glo’ (42.5m per 10g, total 425m).

Yarn Alternatives Main colour: 50g/212m of any sock weight yarn with the same weight/length ratio.
Contrast Colours: 10 x 10g/42.5m sock yarn minis in assorted colours.

Needles: 2.25mm (US #1 ) and 2.75mm (US #2 ) DPN’s (or as required to meet gauge).
