Hibernating Bees
Where do bees go in winter? I wondered to myself one chilly afternoon. Sure, I could research the answer, but I’d rather imagine them hunkering down in a cozy tree hollow surrounded by warm fluffy honeycombs. Those fluffy honeycombs trap warm air and keep it close.
Photos:
1 & 2) Original scarf in hand-spun mohair-wool from Wellington Fibres. Scarf was designed to show off this lofty singles. Photographed downtown Kitchener, ON at new parkade statues.
3) Test knit in another mohair chosen because only one skein required. This is the Giselle.
4) Test knit in Debbie Bliss Rialto to find a non-mohair alternative.
5) Giselle scarf pre-blocking.
Hand-spun note: The fibre was purchased from Wellington Fibres. I started spinning/twisting it with a stick while at the park with kids without a spindle. Yarn was was all spun with a simple stick method.
Errata caught by designer September 2012: original version had extra K1 at the start of rows 5 and 7. Current version has been revised.
