Hidden Garden Cardigan
This tailored cardi has 7 of my favorite design features:
The rolled collar is permanently, invisibly, knit in place so no need to constantly flip it down. (Done slightly BEFORE the seam, this keeps the seam trim and neat.)
The rolled collar does not extend to the back, so it will not mess up your hair. Back of neck is a clean edge (with added support; shoulders stay up, even when sweater is open).
Decreases are strategically placed to trim the waistline and, along with the collar, accommodate the bust. (This is a very flattering cardigan!)
Knit in sleeves use simple short rows to create a lovely fit. (And a few extra stitches at underarm, NOT added armhole depth, keep it comfortable there, not tight.)
Sleeves end in a hemmed, non-confining, crisp edge (instead of ribbing or plain garter stitch).
No buttonholes here! (Extra rows are added on band to keep it from pulling upward.) A twisted cord and large decorative button make it quick and easy to close (and pretty, too).
The hidden, large, flowered pocket puts the carefree finishing touch on this, making it a go-to cardi for quick outings (when you really don’t want to take a purse).
Yarn that gives 4 stitches per inch is required.
This sweater is comfortable to wear, open or closed.
I designed the pocket as simply as possible so even beginner sewers can complete it (since many knitters don’t sign on for a sewing project)!
