Hidden Runes tells a story of the seasons through ancient Elder Futhark symbols. This journey begins during the harshness of winter, where darkness and terror awaits. The only hope for survival is clinging to dwindling flames and dreams of the sun finally rising again. With the emergence of spring, renewed life is brought forth, a time of growth and replenishment, a joyful celebration that concludes with a bountiful harvest. These gifts, bestowed by the earth, are a blessing received for enduring a treacherous yearly rite of passage, for the divine mother knows we are fated to fall into her icy grasp once more. This cycle may shift and appear strange at times, but it is an unbreakable bond between us and the world we call home. This pattern is a small spell of protection that anyone can cast, no matter how experienced in the old ways you may or may not be. Each of the runes have a name and a meaning to help you understand them, like Kaunan (the torch), Jera (the harvest), and Peorth (fate). When worn high, the tale is on display, and when worn low, it is tucked away. You get to decide whether or not to keep your magic a secret.

Hidden Runes is knit from the bottom up and features contrast ribbing with a small hint of stranded colorwork. It’s a great beginner Fair Isle project that works up quickly without being overly complex or confusing.
