This blanket was a challenge I set for myself, to create and write a pattern in 24 hours as a gift to my wonderfully supportive Facebook Group. I asked the group members what they would like to see on a blanket and one reply caught my eye: Heidi McCartney, wanted mountain goats on a rock face or the side of the Rockies, during a late sunset with occasional flowers and shrubs. Once I pictured it, I couldn’t picture anything else.

This is a baby blanket in tapestry crochet style featuring mountain goats perched precariously on the peaks of a mountain, gazing out into the starlit dusk.

Difficulty – Intermediate

Techniques used:
• UK terms – BLDC – Back loop double crochet,
• US terms - BLSC – Back loop single crochet,
• Slip Stitches

What you will need for the blanket (large baby blanket = 115cm x 120cm or 3’9’’x3’11)
• I always recommend Stylecraft Special DK for this as I love the vibrancy of the colours and the yarn is a lovely texture and easy to work with numbers are in 100g balls of DK yarn.
o A White - 1
o B Silver - 1
o C Grey - 1
o D Graphite – 1-2
o E Purple – 1
o F Emperor – 1
o G Royal - 3
o H Empire - 1
o J Turquoise – 1-2
o K Sherbet – 1-2
o L Gold - 1
o M Copper - 1
o N Claret – 1
• If you want to keep it simple you can use a single colour for the foreground (the mountain and goats) and a single colour for the background (the sky and flowers), you may also need white for the stars. Numbers are in 100g balls of DK yarn.
o White - 1
o Mountain and Goats Colour- 3-4
o Sky and Flowers Colour - 6-7
• 4mm - 4.5mm hook
• Tapestry needle for ends
• Scissors
• Stitch markers

Dimensions: Assuming DK acrylic yarn with 4mm hook and 180 stitches x 175 rows approximately: large baby blanket = 115cm x 120cm or 3’9’’x3’11

Gauge: 16 stitches x 11 rows for 10cm/4in square using BLDC (UK terms)/BLSC (US terms) and 4mm hook
