London’s leafy and graceful neighbourhood of Highgate is the inspiration for this classic cabled design. Home to Jude Law, Jamie Oliver and Kate Moss, Highgate boasts Georgian terraces, upmarket restaurants and the wide open spaces of Highgate Woods and Hampstead Heath.
The Highgate Cardigan is perfect for a stroll in the woods, followed by refreshments in a fancy coffee shop. Eye-catching cables provide visual interest and a classic look that will appeal to all styles.
This is a bottom up, seamless knit that is simple and fun to make. The Highgate Cardigan is suitable for intermediate knitters, or it’s a relaxing TV knit for those with more experience. The cable panel can be worked from a chart or written instructions. The pattern includes a full schematic (also shown in photos, to help with your planning).

Construction
The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. After a ribbed cuff, sleeves are worked in the round, with tapered increases. Fronts and back are knit in one piece to the underarms, beginning with a ribbed hem and continuing with a cabled panel at front edges. Body and sleeves are then joined and raglan decreases are worked on the yoke, ending with a ribbed neckband. Stitches are picked up for buttonbands and underarms are grafted with Kitchener stitch.
The Highgate Cardigan pattern has been professionally tech edited by the team at Knit Now Magazine, for a trouble-free knit.
