Highland Afghan
He who first met the Highlands swelling blue
Will love each peak that shows a kindred hue,
Lord Byron (1788-1824)
Thinking of the Scottish Highlands, I think rugged raw nature, high mountain tops and horizons beyond what the eye can see. But also crispy blue skies and lakes, as well as long stretches of mist where trekkers can feel cut off from the world. What is more rewarding than coming back after a long and fresh trek in the mountains to a dancing fire, a sofa, a warm heavy afghan and a hot beverage?
This pattern is an easy make with a smart double border, hiding all the ends you don’t feel like weaving in! ;-)

With 8mm hk: 5 st repeats and 6 rows = 10cm 4” after blocking.
