DOUBLE THICKNESS SOLES, HEELS AND TOES! Socks for wearing any time you like: but especially when out and about, exploring the great outdoors. Will you take the High Road or the Low Road? Choose mid-calf height, with enough length to fold over to protect your bootlaces from thorns, or knee high for wellie-boot-days and mountaineering. The Wee Duchess has invented a way to use the ‘wrap and turn’ technique to enable knitting with double yarn on the sole but not the instep, while compensating for the different gauges, so avoiding concave ‘banana’ shaped soles and wrinkles round the ankles. The double thickness sole gives additional cushioning protection to tired feet and reduces the chance of holes. The sole section comes a little way up the side of the foot for additional comfort.
Instructions include a simple ribbed twist stitch which is easy to do without a cable needle. This pattern is really stretchy but clings well to the leg so your socks won’t fall down. It adds tiny ‘pockets’ of texture to the fabric that create air traps for warmth.
The socks are worked toe-up with a short row heel.
