Highland Holly
Long tubular scarf knit in the round. Stranded colorwork makes for a pretty, almost ivy like design that alternates with longer sections of just plain knitting. A relaxing project with a touch of fun to make it interesting.
Nice to Know:
Pattern is worked in the round as a long tube. The ends are closed after knitting is complete and any embellishments are added. Embellishments are not stipulated in the pattern, but check out photos at end of pattern for guidance. I used tassels attached to braided cords.
The colorwork sections are charted only, either in color, black and white, or both. Choose which one works best for you.
Fair Isle knitting is used for the colorwork. Only two colors will be carried in each round during the colorwork sections.
If your colorwork knitting has a smaller gauge than your stockinette sections, change to larger size needles for the colorwork charts only and do not make your floats too tight.
During the colorwork sections, carry your yarns loosely up the back of your work twisting them around each other when changing colors. I do not carry yarns more than 4-5 rounds and I am pretty quick to just cut one color and add it again later even if it means more tails to weave in.
The colorwork pattern will show up better if you alternate dark and light colors and will be easier to knit if you are new to fair isle knitting. However, I think subtle colorwork is beautiful too!
