Shawl Construction and Design Information
A triangular shaped shawl starting with a garter stitch tab and increases at the each end and along the spine on every right-side row. We start our knitting journey at the top of the mountain with Cairns made of rock shaped bobbles. Cairns are a symbol of success at the end of a hike and they are also used to mark the hikers way. We then move down the mountains with an easy pattern to form the design. A Field of Flowers provides a lacework stitch with yarnovers and knit two togethers and then we come to the craggy stonewall stitch pattern. As we get to the end of our Journey, you have some more rock shaped bobbles, since it is an ancient Scottish custom to carry the rocks up the mountain and place them on the Cairns. In between are garter stitch rows and at the end, simple kilt pleats to complete our shawl knitting trek. The Highland Journey Shawl is perfect if you are taking a walk in the heather or to wrap around yourself while having a hot cup of tea on a blustery day.

Yarn - 3 skeins - The Scottish Yarn Festival Clan 4 ply - Color Tait - Natural Medium Grey - 382 yards/350 meters per 100g skein.

Alternate Yarn - 3 skeins - Tukuwool Fingering - Color - H35 Havu, (Dark Green) - 404 yards/370 meters per 100g skein

or any similar rustic fingering weight yarn. Yards/meters used for green sample - 949yds/868 meters.

Needles - US 6/4.00 mm circular needle - 32 inch/80 cm. US 7 - 4.50 mm straight needle for Bind Off.
