Highlander Hat
Named for my kids high school mascot and knit in the school colors, this pattern is the perfect choice to use up that beautiful skein of hand dyed yarn. This hat is simple enough to let the yarn shine, but subtly detailed so it’s not a boring knit. Pair this with Highlander Fingerless Mitts and you’ve got a beautiful set to keep for yourself or gifting. Hat and mitts use approximately 230-300 yards/211-275 meters, so you are able to get the set out of one skein.
Knit up in team colors for the sports fan in your life or match that new winter coat. This hat will keep you toasty all season long.

Yarns and yardage used:
1 skein of Potion Yarns Temptress DK, 100% super wash merino, 100g, 231 yarns/211 meters, in color way The Emerald Isle.
Or approximately 130-180 yards/119-165 meters of DK or light worsted yarn.
Needles:
US size 4/3.5 mm 16”/41 cm, 32”/81 cm for magic loop, or DPN’s
US size 6/4 mm 16”/41 cm, 32”/81 cm for magic loop, or DPN’s
Or needle size to meet gauge
Gauge
22 sts and 30 rnds equals 4”/10 cm square in reverse stockinette stitch on larger needle in the round after blocking.
Finished measurements:
Please note that this hat was designed to be fitted with a slightly snug fit, and the yarn used for this has a lot of stretch. If you wish for a looser fit you could knit with a heavier yarn and larger needles, this however will affect yardage.
Smaller size is approx. 17 1/2”/44 1/2 cm around and 8 1/4”/21 cm high, unstretched, fitting up to a 22”/56 cm head
Larger size is approx. 19”/48 1/2 cm around and 9”/23 cm high, unstretched, fitting up to a 24”/61 cm head
Pattern has been tech edited and test knit by a wonderful group of ladies.
