I got a request from Hudsy for a hiking beanie some time ago.
And this is what you may get when you ask me for a pattern ;-)

It has a multicolor ribbing (but at most two colors in one round!), reflecting the water colors of the little lake/river surrounded by reed following as first band pattern.
Two ducks in love are swimming in it.

But as Hudsy asked me for squirrels, you can also instead of the ducks knit a little squirrel border pattern :)
If you like squirrels just take a look at her version.

Then follow the pair of hikers, a woman/gir and a man/boy. She has a pony tail and a hiking stick. Both have bag packs :)

Next is either a band of trees or the ducks band if you have decided to use the squirrels. So you have some design possibilties yourself and can combine the bands you like best :)
In the background a little village with small houses and a church can be seen, forest in the background and a mountain with a mountain cross on top of it!
The blue sky with some tiny clouds is on top and at the crown is the sun.

The village and the forest behind it was inspired by Hannberg which is not far from us :)

The beanie is completely knitted in 4-ply sock yarn. Some leftovers will do.
There are many color changes so it is a little more difficult to knit but it has at most two colors in one round which makes this task easier than you may think.

Alternatively you can also use Acrylic or Merino yarn of similar weight. For bigger sizes go up one or two needle sizes and/or use 5-ply yarn or both!

Sodala… Hudsy hat sich eine “Wandermütze” gewünscht. Und das ist dabei herausgekommen ;-)
Der Bund ist mehrfarbig und spiegelt die Farben des Gewässers mit dem Entenpaar wieder. Das Gewässer (See, Bach, Fluß) ist von Schilf umgeben. (Bei uns sagt man: “Baggerli”.)
Ihr könnt aber statt der Enten auch Eichhörnchen stricken. Diese Version hab ich für Hudsy gemacht. Damit könnt Ihr dann an zwei Stellen der Mütze andere Bordüren verwenden und Euch Eure eigene Mützenkombination zusammenstellen :)
Die Eichhörnchenvariante könnt Ihr auf Hudsys Mütze bewundern.

Dann folgen die Wanderer. Männlein und Weiblein. Sie mit Wanderstab. Beide mit Rucksäcken. Sie trägt Pferdeschwanz.
Im Anschluß folgen entweder Bäume in der Au oder das Gewässer. Je nachdem wie Ihr Euch entscheidet.
Im Hintergrund seht Ihr ein kleines Dorf (“Hannberg”) - Häuser und (Wehr-) Kirche - mit dem Wald im Hintergrund. Berge mit Gipfelkreuz sind dort außerdem zu sehen (weil es ja eine Wandermütze ist ;-)
Dann folgt der strahlend blaue Himmel mit kleinen Wölkchen und über allem strahlt die Sonne!

Ich hab die Mütze wie üblich in 4-fach Sockenwolle gestrickt. Ihr könnt aber auch Acryl- oder Merinogarn ähnlicher Stärke verwenden (4 - 5-fach z.B. Buttinette Madeleine).
Für größere Köpfe empfehle ich etwas dickeres Garn und/oder größere Nadeln zu verwenden.
