Hilary Shawl

Say hello to the Hilary Shawl, designed in collaboration with Wool Decanted! She’s a long, shallow crescent shawl in a fun combination of moss stitch and cables. I’ve taken to calling my shawls after family members. I’ve named this one after my auntie Hilary who used to handknit cable sweaters and sell them to clients in the US. Sadly, she passed away in 2021, she is greatly missed. I hope this is a fitting tribute to her.

The design is knit tip to tip avoiding rows with lots of stitches and creating a crescent shape that is easy to wear. The cable pattern has been set off centre so that it is visible when worn.

Pattern Information:
Yarn: 675-700m fingering weight yarn; the sample is knit using Wool Decanted Vintage 23 4 ply fingering weight (3 x 50gm skein/225m/246yds approx.) in the colour way Island Dusk.
Suggested Needles: US 5/3.75mm or needles required to get gauge.
Notions: Stitch markers, cable needle, tapestry needle
Measurements: 213 cm/84” wingspan, 35 cm/14” depth
Gauge: 28 sts x 36 rows to 10cm/4” over moss stitch pattern blocked; gauge is less important in a shawl, however, if your gauge is looser than specified more yarn will be required.
