This listing is for my Highland Cow Crochet Pattern. It is ideal for intermediate and practised crocheters. I’m sure Hilda the Highland Cow would make a great addition to your crochet animal collection.

If you want to crochet the cow without a loopy coat, you may want to use the FREE video tutorial on my YouTube channel.
This paid version is for those who want to learn how to crochet the loopy coat, or who prefer a PDF pattern with step-by-step pictures that can be accessed offline or printed.

ABOUT THE PATTERN:
The Highland Cow amigurumi pattern has detailed step-by-step instructions that are accompanied by high-quality photos and video tutorials of the process.
This listing includes photo tutorials on how to make a magic ring, invisible decreases in single crochet, color changes in single crochet, invisible finishes and closing small rounds, plus a tutorial for the loop stitch.

LANGUAGE: English (US)

CONSTRUCTION:
The legs are crocheted onto the body. The ears, horns and head are sewn on. For the eyes, I used 5 mm safety eyes. The eyelids, nose and mouth are embroidered. The coat is crocheted separately and then sewn on. The pattern includes options for different kinds of coats, depending on which yarn you are using. There is also the option to make the cow without a coat and attach an alternative tail instead.

SIZE:
The Highland cow/bull (both have horns but they differ slightly) will be approx. 12 cm (4.7”) tall (including horns) and 13 cm (5.1”) long if using the indicated hook and yarn.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

  • Cotton yarn in DK (light worsted) weight in beige and light brown or rusty red for the body (I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Vanilla Cream and Soft Fudge for two cows and Rico Creative Ricorumi DK in Fox and Mastic for another cow).
  • Lace yarn in light brown or rusty red for the body and coat. Recommended yarns for the coat are: Drops Kid Silk in Rust (33), or Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk in Pale Rust (22), or Rowan Kidsilk Haze
  • 2.5mm crochet hook / Size B-1 or C-2 (depending on how tightly you crochet)
  • 5mm safety eyes
  • Black embroidery floss
  • Fiberfill
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • Large-eyed sewing needle
  • Sewing pins
  • Scissors
  • A small amount of craft wire for the horns (optional)
