A hat for cold winter days, Hilgard features stranded colorwork in thick yarn, earflaps to keep your ears toasty warm, and braided ties to cinch those earflaps down on windy days. Small sections of stranded colorwork worked flat are used to integrate the pattern on the hat into the earflaps, and a crocheted edging keeps the brim from rolling.

About the Pattern
Earflaps are worked flat, then joined at the brim cast on and the rest of the project is worked in the round. The pattern is charted, with some written explanations. Detailed instructions are given for crochet edging. Stitch counts are given in italics at the end of each round whenever stitch count has changed from the previous round.
