I reside in a country that doesn’t have distinct seasons, but I always imagine what it would be like to live in a country with four seasons, like Japan. During summer in Japan, the scenery is vibrant, and some flowers, like the sunflower, bloom beautifully. In Japanese, the sunflower is called “Himawari,” while in Indonesia, it is referred to as “bunga matahari” (bunga means flower and matahari means the sun).

I have designed a shawl named “Himawari” for a Japanese Instagram group account called @lul_blossom, which brings together talented Japanese designers. The shawl has a semi-crescent shape and is knitted from the top down, with a stockinette body and lace edging added sideways to give it a delicate and airy appearance. This is my first shawl design and my first contribution to the group.
