This little Hippo Hat is a fun twist on a baby’s earflap hat. With the addition of a nose and some cute buttons this hat turns in to a hippo. You’ll be the hit of the baby shower with this little charmer!

Sizes: Infant (Child, Adult Small, Adult Large)

Finished circumference: 14 (16, 19, 21½)” / 35.5 (40.5, 48.5, 54.5) cm

Yarn: Ewe Ewe Yarns, Wooly Worsted Washable, 95 yards per 50g skein, 100% merino wool yarn, #4 worsted weight
– 1 (2, 2, 3) skein(s) or (97 Brushed Silver or color of your choice)

Needles: US 8 (5 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needles
US 8 (5 mm) double-pointed needles

Supplies: Stitch marker, darning needle, 2 small pink buttons (nose), 2 large black buttons (eyes), Size I/9 crochet hook

Gauge: 20 sts and 24 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette st in the round, after blocking.

Extra notes: The hat begins with the hippo nose and earflaps worked flat on DPNs. The hat is then assembled by casting on stitches and integrating the flat sections into a hat.
