Hirundo Shawl
Hirundo (the name for a genus of birds) is a simple half-circle shawl knit from the top down, beginning at the center. It is worked flat and is a wonderful first shawl project. The shawl consists of garter stitch and its shape echoes a bird wing in its construction, consisting of alternating short row and increase sections.
Instructions are given for two sizes: small and large. Great for stashbusting: the small size uses appropriately one single skein and partial skeins can be alternated in each section. Instructions are given for customizing the shawl body. The Hirundo Shawl could also be worked in other yarn weights with the appropriate needle size to create your desired drape; this would affect gauge and therefore also the finished size.
