Hitomi
Hitomi is a crescent shaped shawl with a tip. This shape works very well worn the traditional style (around the shoulders) or wrapped around the neck. The curved neckline keeps it from sliding off and the weight of the tip keeps it centred.
It can be worked in one, two or three colors.
The size of the shawl can be freely adjusted by enlarging the body section.
The easy body pattern with plain WS rows is ideal TV-knitting, no need to look at the charts after the first few rows.
The main lace pattern is from the famous Japanese pattern designer Hitomi Shida. It is quite intricate and needs attention on both sides.
Yarn
• fingering yarn 180gr (for three colored fingering version: 100gr each of the two
main colours and 30gr of the contrast colour)
• or 100gr lace weight / heavy lace yarn
Please choose a yarn that blocks well and keeps the shape.
Needles
• 3.5 mm (US 4) for fingering version; 3.25 mm (US 3) for lace version or size that
gives you the fabric you like best
• cable needle or dpn for wrapped stitches
Other notions
• optional: crochet hook in the same size as your knitting needles for bind off
• tapestry needle to weave in ends
Useful information
Yarn usage
The size of the body can be adjusted to optimize yarn usage. Chart A can be worked
multiple times in even numbers. Usage depends very much on personal tension. Based on
the test knits this is how often Chart A can be worked:
10 times for fingering (180gr total)
12 times for heavy lace with 600m/100gr
14 times for lace with 800m/100gr
The three colored versions used half of Colour 1 for the body.
The single colored versions used between 31% and 37% for the body.

Notice: there are two minor errors in Chart set 1, Chart D:
-row 1, left half: the double decrease just after the centre stitch is coloured yellow
-row 14: the last double decrease in the repeat block is coloured yellow, but it should be green.
Cart F:
row 8: there is an errant dot throughout the row, first appearing in the 8th stitch and then in the same position all through the row. These squares should be empty, worked as WS purl
