Meet our adorable Bees & Hive Mobile. 3 Adorable bees flying around their plush hive.

This pattern is suitable for an advanced knitter. This is a very tiny pattern and requires a lot of patience and knowledge of knitting small things to achieve. It is not for all knitters. If you are new to knitting stuffed animals, you may want to start with our Classic Teddy Bear or Smooth Hedgehog patterns. However, if you love detailed work, this is the pattern for you! Our Bees and Hive are knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 25 m of medium weight light brown (LB) and 5 m of medium weight dark brown (DB) yarn for the hive. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. For the bees, 5 m of medium weight yellow (Y) yarn, 5 m of medium weight black (B) yarn and 3 m of light weight white (W) yarn. With this yarn, use 2.75 mm (US size 2). You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your hive and bees together. This will let you create a hive that’s approximately 11 cm (4.5 inches) in length and bees that are approximately 4 cm (1.5 inches).

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.

Please note that this is not suitable for children to play with. It is intended for decoration only. If you plan to hang this over a child’s bed or crib, please make sure it is hung out of reach and make sure to adjust the mobile as the child grows and is able to stand. The hive and bees are small and should not be place in a child’s mouth. They could constitute a choking hazard if swallowed.
