Hive Hat
The Hive Hat .PDF was updated January 31st; errata is available for the previous version.
Hive Hat is a simple beanie with a nice pentagonal decrease pattern. The stitch pattern is a little reminiscent of the cooler (design-wise), lighter (yarn-wise) Skep Cap, but this design omits the short rows and construction tricks, and instead relies entirely on the fabric’s ability to expand and contract for its shaping benefits.
Knit this hat in DK or worsted yarn.
Materials:
About 135-168yards of Malabrigo Arroyo, shown in Archangel
1 16” circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge.
1 set of 5 DPNs in size needed for gauge
1 tapestry needle for weaving ends
Gauge:
Gauge is 21 sts and 34 rows over 4”/10cm in blocked stockinette, worked flat. Gauge in pattern is ~20 sts and 40 rows in 4”/10cm.
Gauge is altered somewhat by the accordion tendency of the simple stitch pattern.
