This is quite a substantial decoration with the letters standing 9 inches tall without the hats. This is the first of a 2-part Christmas set with skiing / skating penguins. I have designed the wreath, just haven’t got around to it yet
The letters are knit in superchunky – the red is Cygnet seriously chunky metallics, shade Lithium – isn’t that poetic
The white was something I had in my stash & is chunky – think it is stylecraft.
You will need 500g of the superchunky metallics, but the sheen is gorgeous & it is beautiful to knit with. The balls are only 48m, so bear this in mind
The white I used approx 150g there are 105 metres in each ball
Approx 30g 4ply in black – I used drops alpaca
5g 4 ply white – Drops Alpaca
Tiny amount yellow 4ply – drops alpaca
5g of fine red mohair- Drops kidsilk
I know these yarns are pricey, they just happened to be leftovers from other projects, apart from the seriously chunky metallics, which, I will admit I purchased because of the name – my cat is called Lithium. Any superchunky, or, chunky, or, 4ply will work as well & it doesn’t have to be mohair, any fluffy 4ply will do – or unfluffy for that matter
6.5mm, dpns , 5mm dpns, 2.5mm dpns– everything is knit flat, but, much easier to maneuver short needles
Tapestry needle, 2 lolly sticks, 5mm toy eyes – or embroidery thread in black. Toy stuffing
Dk yarn in deep red & white for sewing up
