HO HO by Ellen B. Wright

HO HO

This pattern is based on Shelley Winiger’s OH HO, but made fully reversible through the magic of irregular double knitting.

Ordinarily, double knitting produces a reversible fabric in mirror image; i.e. “OH HO” on one side would be “HO OH” on the other. Irregular double knitting takes advantage of k1p1 ribbed stitches in the same color, instead of switching colors, to produce two sides that don’t need to be exact mirror images of each other. (Though it’s easier if you keep the same-color stitches to a minimum.)

You should already be comfortable with the basic double knitting technique to tackle this project, as it’s tricky to wrap your head around. You’ll need two colors of yarn; two straight or double pointed needles – gauge doesn’t matter; three double pointed needles of the same size if you want to use the Kitchener bind-off; and a crochet hook.
