Hobart Socks
If you live in or visit Australia’s southernmost capital city, you will definitely need a warm but stylish pair of socks. This cuff down sock pattern is quick and interesting to knit and creates a cosy and striking pair of DK weight (8ply) socks.
As with all the other patterns in my Australian City Sock Collection, there are cuff and heel options to build your perfect sock, and this pattern includes instructions for the Fleegle Heel in case you have always wanted to try it out. The pattern comes in small, medium and large sizes.
This pattern is absolutely perfect for self-striping sock yarn but would also look great in a tonal or speckled yarn.
You can knit these socks up in your choice of either DK weight (8ply) sock yarn, fingering weight (4ply) sock yarn held double, or my favourite - fingering weight (4ply) sock yarn held together with a strand of silk mohair.
You will need around 100g of yarn, depending on the size of your foot and your preferred leg length. So pick out some amazing yarn, grab your preferred sock needles, and cast on. Fair warning - you may get addicted to making and wearing these!
These socks are so quick to knit and the chevron pattern is very easy to remember and results in an enjoyable and meditative knitting experience.
I hope this pattern helps you with your sock knitting and inspires you to make many pairs of warm and squishy socks.
This pattern has been tech edited and fully tested. I warmly welcome and feedback or questions about the pattern.
Happy making!
Kath xx
