Hodmedod
Hodmedod is the Norfolk word for Hedgehog and is a bit of a thingumy sort of a word. And this is a bit of a thingumy really – too small to be called a shawl, but very cosy to tie around your neck for a bit of warmth. It’s a riff on the Estonian 3-gathered stitch and uses just one skein of fingering yarn – in this case a Hedgehog Fibres skinny single. It’s the first time I’ve used this delicious yarn and the first time I’ve combined lace knitting with a speckled yarn.
The piece is a triangle knitted from the centre top down and starts from a garter tab. Both charted and written instructions are included in this pattern. I blocked mine to approximately 65cm deep with a span of 130cm, however the final size will vary according to your own choice of yarn and needle, as well as your knitting tension.
