I designed this pattern to demonstrate the “Modified Astrakhan stitch” for the NYC Crochet Guild. I call it the modified Astrakhan stitch because it normally uses double crochet. This version of the stitch uses single crochet which gives the fabric more density. Apart from a coffee sleeve, you could use it to trim a hat or gloves for a fake fur effect.

Errata: Row 8 should read sc in the FLO (not BLO) for 8 st (not 9). Row 9 should read Repeat Row3 (not 4). Thanks to Myrian for helping me with the testing and correction of this pattern.
