Holey Smokes!
I have long wanted to design a crochet shawl that celebrates the fade, you know the sort; blending one shade into another and into another, creating a beautiful cascade of colour. I imagined lacy sections combined with gorgeous textures and have tinkered and played to come up with a combination that might make one exclaim “Holey Smokes!” (of course, I added the “e” because of the holes that appear in the fancy stitch work).
The pattern includes the written instructions, a chart diagram and step-by-step photographs of the main stitch used.
There is now a YouTube tutorial Here for the Crossed Treble stitch!
Materials:
4 x colours 4ply fingering. 40g Yarn A (Pink Swirl) , 80g Yarn B (Rave), 75g Yarn C (Poison Ivy), 30g Yarn D (Midnight Rave). I used 100% BFL indie dyed yarn (425m per 100g) from Somerset Yarns via Etsy.
4mm hook
Tension: Whilst tension isn’t critical for this project, it may affect the amount of yarn used. A blocked triangle of the first 10 rows measures approximately across top: 8 inches/20cm. Corner to point: 6 inches/15.5cm. From top to point: 4.5 inches/11.5cm

Notes:
-The pattern is written in UK terms.
-Pattern worked top down.
-Skill level: medium to difficult.
-Instead of using a magic circle at the beginning of the pattern, you can substitute it by chaining 2 and working into the 2nd ch from hook.
-A stitch marker may be useful for the middle point. Move up at each row.
Special Stitches: Crossed Treble Stitch (also known as the Cane Work st or Star Mesh st). Full instructions given.
