ABOUT THIS KNITTING PATTERN

This is a great “I’ve never done socks before” pattern for a few reasons:

Double pointed needles are used only for the decrease sequences These socks are knit from the top-down. The pattern calls for a 9-inch needle which makes the sock knit up quickly. Three double point needles are used only during the toe & heel sequences (two needles hold the stitches; one works the stitches). The needles holding the stitches mimic the top and bottom of the foot. This makes keeping track of the decreases easier & you can see the shape come together as you work.

The heel isn’t scary The heel is worked last and similarly to the toe, so you’ll already feel like a pro when you get to it. The process is so simple it’s nicknamed the “easy heel”.

No purling Well actually, there’s barely any purling (only a 1/2 row). Since these socks are knit in the round and then turned to the purl side for wear, they have the casual, textured appearance the purl stitch provides without having to do the work!

No wasted yarn Using the mini-skeins that are in the Holiday Cheer bundle won’t break the bank or leave you with a lot of left-over yarn. I recommend changing up the color sequences between the two socks, so they are not identical. Sometimes my sock projects become long-term WIPs after I’ve seen what the first sock looks like, so changing around the colors keeps me motivated to finish them up.
