Worked up in plush, squishy half-fisherman’s rib, the Holly Avenue shawl is ready to be your chilly-time companion, from couch to cozy cabin holiday and anywhere in between. This mammoth, stripey shawl is perfect for countdown calendars, your collection of sock minis, or even your scrap drawer. This simple triangle shawl is an easy knit, a snap to memorize, and an ideal introduction to half-fisherman’s rib. You can always adjust the stripe widths to match your minis or your mood.

Whether it’s a riot of colors, a gentle fade, or a few skeins of your fingering-yarn favorite, you’ll find yourself reaching for Holly Avenue all season long.

Yarn
This sample used the 2023 Moody Christmas at the Cabin advent calendar by Murray Wool Goods. It included 24 fingering weight mini skeins 88 yds / 80m per 20 g skein of 70% SW Merino/ 20% Yak/10% Nylon.

I recommend using a fingering weight yarn. Superwash wools, as well as wool blended with silk, yak, alpaca, or viscose will produce drapier shawls that are more likely to grow when blocking. Non-superwash wools will produce a bouncier finished fabric with more body and less drape.
