Holly Collar
The Holly collar is worked from top to bottom, from the neckline. Different numbers for size 2-3 years are given within the parenthesis.
If only one number is specified, it applies to all sizes.
According to this pattern, you can make either a narrow, or a wide collar. Instructions for each option are given separately. The stitch pattern is both charted and written out.
The collar is worked with button closure or ties. The pattern includes two options for the ties: 1st option – garter st ties and neckline edging, 2nd option – i-cord ties and neckline finishing.
Yarn: Lana Gatto Silk Mohair (75% mohair, 25% silk; 212 m/25 g (231 yds/0.88 oz)).
Possible substitutions: cotton, merino wool or blends with matching gauge with 3.5 mm (US4) needles.
Recommended yarn: Drops Baby Alpaca Silk, Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk, Drops loves you #7, Drops Safran, Gazzal Baby cotton, Alize Bella, Alize Cotton Gold.
Totals used: narrow collar – approx. 20-25 g (0.7-0.8 oz), wide collar – approx. 25-30 g (0.8-1 oz).
Needles: circular needles 3.5 mm (US4) with cable length 40 cm (16 in), double pointed needles 3.5 mm (US4).
Notions: 3.5 mm (US4) crochet hook, tapestry needle, about 1 yard of contrasting color waste yarn, yarn in matching color for grafting, 1 button with diameter approx. 1 cm (0.4 in), scissors.
Gauge: make a gauge swatch - 2-3 pattern repeats in width and height according to the chart or written instructions. Measure the width of the pattern repeat in the first row after washing and blocking.
The width of the pattern repeat of 7 stitches is 3 cm (1.1 in) (yarn with yardage 150 m/50 g 9164 yds/1.7 oz)). The gauge is 2.3 sts per 1 cm (0.4 in).
The pattern is for two sizes, 0-18 months and 2-3 years. Based on the neck circumference and age (see the size table below), you can make the collar of any size. Depending on the size, work the required number of pattern repeats.
Size table for women indicates the approximate number of pattern repeats with matching gauge.
