Holothurian 2 is a versatile, convertible shrug/cowl/miniscarf. It uses a simple lace and garter-stitch motif to create almost a faux-crochet look, and to make it wearable several different ways with the placement of 6-8 buttons.

Holothurian 2 also lends itself well to handspun—knit it in Noro Silk Garden Sock for the result shown (the colorway is S358) or use your own handmade, specially-designed sportweight yarn. Substitution is not necessary, but encouraged!

Materials:
About 328yds/300m-656-600m, or 1-2 skeins, of Noro Silk Garden Sock (colorway shown: S358)
1 40” flexible circular needle in US5-7/3.75-4.5mm, or size needed for gauge
4 removable stitch markets
6-8 buttons, 3/4”/1.9cm or 1“/2.54cm, or ideally, chosen to fit eyelets
Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge is about 16 sts and 32 rows in 4”/10cm. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Sizes:
Sizes are offered in S (M, L, XL) increments, based on upper arm measurements as the key to fit. If you need a smaller or larger size than the chart suggests, it’s very easy to customize based on the notes included.

My favorite variation so far is either the two-sleeved shrug or a half-shrug, half-cowl single-sleeve look, but I’m sure there are ways of wearing this that I haven’t even considered.
