> Holy Palmers' Kiss
Holy Palmers' Kiss
Romeo
If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, a gentle fine is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
Juliet
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this:
For saints have hands that pilgrims’ hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers’ kiss.
This sweet flirtation between Romeo and Juliet ends with their first kisses. I thought some dainty little mitts would suit. I could just imagine Juliet wearing a pair during this interlude. For these gloves, I used Apu by Amano, and I really can’t recommend it highly enough. The resulting gloves are light as a feather and ridiculously soft. One ball of this yarn is
sufficient for the Small or Medium sizes, but an additional ball is necessary for the Large size, or if you wish for longer mitts.
Skill Level: Beginner-to-Intermediate: All techniques are explained, but some familiarity with knitting in the round will be helpful.
Materials: 80-125 yds of sport weight yarn. The mitts pictured are a size medium and use 100 yds of Apu by Amano.
Needles: US2 (2.75mm) needles, either double pointed or 1 long circular for working magic loop.
Tools: Safety pin or stitch holder, scissors, & a tapestry needle
Gauge: 24 stitches to 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
Sizing: Small (Medium, Large) size mitts measure 6(6.5,7) inches in circumference. The mitts are designed to fit from the wrist/base of the palm, to just covering the beginning of the fingers. If you wish for longer mitts at either end, you should plan on extra yarn.
