Home & Garden Poncho
This poncho is so simple and quick to work up, you’ll be wearing it in no time!
The simple stitch pattern is easy to remember and
creates a delightfully cozy garment that you’ll reach for over and over again.
Construction
Worked flat, then folded and seamed 1/2 - 3/4 of the way across to create the neck opening.
I think this is the easiest accessory to customize besides a scarf. Simply cast on more or less stitches than I did, and work more or less repeats of the pattern to get to desired length. Aim for a slight rectangle or a perfect square after folding.
Size of sample:
Approx 19” wide x 45” long (19” x 22.5” folded)
250 - 325g used (depending on yarn)
Yarn
You can truly use any yarn from DK up. Use aran or chunky for a closer knit fabric, or worsted or DK for an airier fabric.
Yarns I’ve used:
- Schachenmayr Fashion Leana (neutral colors) Aran weight 49% Wool/49% Acrylic/2% Nylon
- Universal Yarn Classic Shades (bright colors) Aran weight 70% Acrylic/30% Wool
- Berroco Ultra Alpaca (Cerulean) Chunky weight 50% Alpaca/50% Wool
Needle
US15 / 10mm (or whatever gives you a fabric you like)
I used this same needle size for all yarns.
10mm Crochet hook (optional - for seam)
Gauge in Aran weight
(gauge is not critical - provided for reference)
10 sts x 12 rows = 4”/10cm
