Home – Log Cabin Quilt Mosaic
This new pattern, Home, is based after the classic Log Cabin quilt square pattern that has been around for years, but redesigned for mosaic crochet. I named it “Home” because of the history of this quilt square, where a red center square traditionally represents home and hearth.
This pattern is done in overlay mosaic style. If you are new to mosaic crochet, there are many wonderful tutorials on YouTube that can help you familiarize yourself with the technique. Any confident advanced beginner to intermediate crochet enthusiast can pick this up quickly! The basic stitches required are chain, slip stitches, single and double crochets.
This pattern can be used to make projects of all sizes, but the afghan pictured is approximately 60” x 60”, made with worsted weight yarn and 4 pattern repeats, both vertically and horizontally. It could be customized to any size by adapting the yarn weight and pattern repeats as you want.
The pattern is a downloadable PDF file containing several pages of detailed charts, pictures, and written instructions that outline the process, as well as some links to tutorials that are very helpful to learn the overlay mosaic technique.
Also included are mocked-up design ideas you can create with using both pattern options.
Between 3600-4200 yards of worsted weight yarn (approximately 1800-2200 yards of each color) were used. If you choose to add a border or make a different length, you can adjust yarn amount needed.
