This simple mitten is quick to make and can be customized to work as a fingerless mitt with or without a flip-top. It really is three patterns in one. You can customize the fit by modifying numbers (such as stitch or row counts) at key points in the pattern, which I’ve indicated with an asterisk (). Gauge given is a suggestion. I want to encourage you to knit these with the stitch counts, ease, and gauge that feels right for you. Keep in mind that most wool will relax a little, and superwash wool will relax a lot!

Every sample I knit used about 35g of worsted yarn per mitten, or about 70g total. My hands are about 9” circumference at the widest part and 6” long, with a wrist circumference of 6.25.“ My model’s hans (blue mittens pictured here) are longer and narrower. The samples are done in two sizes - the blue mittens have a 32-stitch cast on, and the pink 36 stitches. Both have the same size thumb gusset.

I hope you enjoy making these, for yourself or for people you love.
