I designed this beanie in collaboration with my three year old. After we couldn’t find a pattern that she liked on Ravelry, we finally found some inspiration with a honeycomb stitch that I love which I’d used in one of her baby blankets.
I was writing up the pattern as we were visiting my husband’s family for our first bout of post-Covid travel - we hadn’t seen them for three years and in that time we’d also welcomed my nephew to the fold. To celebrate, I decided to size the pattern to fit all ages so I could make a matching set for my mother-in-law and her two grandbabies. Whether you make one beanie or an entire family’s worth, I hope this beanie brings you as much joy as our long-awaited reunion brought us.

This is a great stash busting project. Stick to a single colour for the CC, then go wild with whatever combination of colours and yarns you like for the MC. You should be able to get gauge with most 8 ply (DK) and thinner 10 ply (light worsted) yarns, or even a 4 ply (fingering) yarn held double.

Needles

4 mm (US 6) or size needed to obtain gauge DPNs or circular needles for preferred method of working small circumferences.
3.75 mm (US 5) or one size smaller than main needle DPNs or circular needles for preferred method of working small circumferences.
